There was never a plan to disrupt the country through mosques

Makassar, CNN Indonesia

Chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), Jusuf Kalla (JK) criticizes the plan Police mapping mosques in an effort to prevent the spread terrorism. JK said that there was never any attempt to disrupt the country through mosques.

“No one has ever messed with the country through a mosque. There has never been an allegiance in a mosque, all kinds of things,” said JK after Friday prayers and gathering with the Management of the Al-Markaz Al-Islam Mosque in Makassar, Friday (28/01). .

JK said that acts of terrorism actually started in rented houses, such as making bombs, forming groups and networks. He also regretted that the police mapped out residences that were hotbeds of terrorism.

“If that’s the case. Check all the rented houses,” he said.

Furthermore, JK also asked the police to be more careful in assessing the preachers at the mosque. According to him, there are lecturers who criticize government policies, but not in the context of bringing down the country.

“If anyone criticizes it, I am sure it is for amar makruf nahi mungkar. Not in order to destroy the country,” he said.

However, said JK, if the speaker at the mosque wants to rebel against the state, the government is welcome to take firm action.

“Please arrest him. But in general, mosques are not like that,” he said.

Previously, the National Police Headquarters said it would map mosques in Indonesia. Director of State Security at the National Police Security Intelligence Agency, Brigadier General Umar Effendi, said that mapping the mosque was one of the efforts to prevent the spread of terrorism.

“Yesterday we also agreed in the mosque mapping discussion, sir. Sorry,” said Umar during the Wasathiyah National Halaqah Optimizing Islam in Preventing Extremism and Terrorism agenda held by MUI broadcast on the MUI YouTube channel, Wednesday (26/1).
