JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Former Minister of Defense (Menhan) Ryamizard Ryacudu has opened his voice regarding the satellite project of the Ministry of Defense or Ministry of Defense which is said to have harmed the country.
Ryamizard said the Ministry of Defense at that time decided to rent a satellite because there was an emergency. This is to fill the orbital slot of 123 degrees East Longitude in 2015.

According to him, if Indonesia does not immediately show its commitment to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the slot can be given to another party.
Therefore, he said, President Joko Widodo at that time issued a discretion or order to him to save the orbital slot.
“I am a soldier, I was ordered to save orbit (slot) 123 east longitude, I did it and it worked,” Ryamizard was quoted as saying. Kompas.id on Tuesday (18/1/2022).
“If I don’t do that, the orbit could be taken by other parties and endanger the country’s sovereignty.”
It was noted that on January 19, 2015, the Garuda-1 satellite in that slot was out of orbit, resulting in a vacancy in the orbital slot of 123 degrees East Longitude. As per ITU rules, these slots must be filled if they do not want to be given to other countries.
In addition, Ryamizard explained that there is a threat to sovereignty against the state if the orbital slot above Sulawesi is not immediately rescued, although normatively there are some that are not appropriate.
