Thailand coach Alexandre ‘Mano’ Polking admits he has great respect Indonesian National team from AFF Cup 2020 (2021).
The respect was given by Polking while serving the Indonesian national team in the 2020 AFF Cup final. The Brazilian and German-blooded coach said Shin Tae Yong’s squad showed their potential in the 13th edition of the AFF Cup.
“We have great respect for Indonesia. They had a good tournament, they also performed very well in the group stage. They barely survived the draw with Vietnam, but in the remaining three games they played quite well and scored a lot of goals,” said Polking when asked about the match against the Indonesian national team, reported from Zing.
“They have a young squad, physical condition is also good. You can see they always work hard, run a lot and work very hard to put pressure on the opponent,” he continued.
The Indonesian national team, which was previously unseeded, managed to advance to the final. The Red and White Team was even able to outperform Vietnam, which was the defending champion, to top Group B.
Asnawi Mangkualam and his friends even managed to make it to the final. However, the Indonesian national team’s efforts to win the title for the first time had to run aground because they were defeated 2-6 on aggregate from Thailand.
The Indonesian national team lost 0-4 in the first leg and drew 2-2 in the second leg. The defeat made the Indonesian national team runner-up for the sixth time in the AFF Cup.
