Ytterback leaves Häcken for Allsvenskan competitor

The Icelandic left-back Oskar Sverrisson, 29, came into play in 16 Allsvenskan matches for BK Häcken in 2021 but started only three of these. In his first two seasons, there was even less playing time for Sverrisson with six matches in 2019 and seven matches in 2020. Now Häcken announces that they are going their separate ways with the player despite one year remaining of the contract.

Instead, Sverrisson will play for Varbergs Bois next season. The Halland team, which finished one point ahead of Häcken in this year’s Allsvenskan, has presented the left – back on its official website.

– It feels fun and inspiring to be a part of Varberg’s Bois. I’ve been close to signing for teams that Jocke (Persson) has trained on several occasions, so it feels a little extra fun that it will eventually be over. I watch a lot of Swedish football so you have a good view of the club and the team, in addition I have met Bois myself a couple of times. It is a club that has been responsible for an impressive journey with small funds and you are a hard-working team that is hard to meet, says Sverrisson on Varberg’s website.

Varbergs Bois manager Joakim “Jocke” Persson:

– I think he fits very well into our group and the framework that we build around our young players. Oskar is flexible as he can play wingback, left back, left inner back but also go to the right if there is a crisis. Above all, it is a player of 29 years who may not have had the desired playing time in recent seasons, so the hunger should remain and the will to prove that he is a really good Allsvenskan football player.

Persson further says that there is great interest in Jean Carlos de Brito and that Sverrisson can be the brass replacement.

If there is no bid for Jean, we have pleasant problems, says the Bois manager.

Oskar Sverrisson has previously played for clubs such as Dalkurd, Landskrona and Mjällby on Swedish soil.
