Over the past few years, we have witnessed a boom in both Augmented Reality (AR) technology and cryptocurrencies and it was a matter of time before the two came together in some kind of joint project.
Finally, this union has materialized in an Augmented Reality game, since Niantic has just launched a cryptocurrency Pokémon GO, an experimental game in which you can explore the world and capture bitcoins.

Niantic and Fold App Partner to Create First Cryptocurrency Pokémon GO
To develop this game, Niantic, the studio responsible for Pokémon GO, has partnered with Bitcoin payments company, Fold App, to develop an AR game in which we will have to capture bitcoins in real world locations.
In this new game, the participants, instead of capturing Pokémon, they will be rewarded with satoshis, which is the smallest unit of bitcoin, the equivalent in this virtual currency to euro cents, with extra spins to earn rewards on the Fold Card, the free debit card from the Fold App, and time extensions to stay longer in the game.
To play this game we will only have to access the Fold application, click on “Play” and go out and explore real world places in search of bitcoins, but you must be careful because among the bitcoins there will be poisin pills and “shitcoin” that will take all your winnings in the game.

Regarding this experimental game developed in collaboration with Niantic, Fold App CEO Will Reeves himself stated the following:
