9 Omicron Cases Detected, South Korea Sets Corona Death-Surge Record

South Korea (South Korea) again sets record high for spikes and deaths from corona virus (COVID-19) in a day. This record was set when the country confirmed a total of nine cases new variant of Omicron detected in the region.

As reported Reuters, Saturday (4/12/2021), the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) announced that 5,352 Corona cases and 70 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. The figures set a record high for additional daily cases and deaths in South Korea since the start of the pandemic.

On Friday (3/12) local time, the South Korean government announced tightening of Corona rules for its citizens, with everyone visiting restaurants, cinemas and other public places required to show proof of vaccination.

Local authorities have also tightened the limit for private gatherings to a maximum of six people in the Seoul area and beyond, from a maximum of 10. For other areas outside Seoul, the limit was tightened to eight people, from 12 people.

The tightening of the rules will take effect from Monday (6/12).

The latest KDCA data also states that the number of hospitalizations in hospitals has increased rapidly due to the high number of Corona cases, with the number of Corona patients with serious and critical conditions reaching 752 people as of Friday (3/12) local time.

Meanwhile, for the Omicron variant, South Korea also confirmed three new cases in its territory. This brings a total of nine confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in the country.
