Angels are spirit creatures who unceasingly glorify God and serve his saving designs with other creatures:
“Ad omnia bona nostra cooperantur angel” (Angels cooperate in every good work we do)

The representation of those spiritual beings so important in the life of the Christian, appear already from its earliest times, (as we can see in the first known image in the catacombs of Saint Priscila) and they change through the centuries and artistic styles.

Since angels are our protectors, many major cities have a statue of an angel as their protector.
Some of these statues are clearly Christian and others are the representation of “Victory”, an image inspired by Greek mythology, in Nike.

That is why in the Renaissance, which in a way is also a “rebirth” of Greek culture, several images of angels in the style of Nike began to be seen.
Angels of human form, asexual; angels in the shape of little plump children; mystical angels of uncertain forms and also the “not so good” angels, the “fallen” ones. All present in art, all present in human experience.
