Alberto Fernández met with the director of the WHO for the approval of the Sputnik V vaccine

President Alberto Fernandez raised the head of World Health Organization (WHO) the “importance” of Sputnik V vaccine approval against him coronavirus, one of the most applied in Argentina during the pandemic.

The president made the proposal to the general director of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, during a meeting that both held in Rome in the framework of the G20 summit that takes place in the Italian capital.

Ghebreyesus pointed out that the WHO is already making progress in the exchange of information so that Sputnik V can prequalify for approval. The United Nations agency plans to carry out factory inspections where it is produced and continue to add evidence to include it on the list of approved vaccines for emergency use.

In addition, he mentioned that the body he directs is asking that vaccination certificates are not used because that fosters inequality between countries and people.

Later, the Argentine president met with the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, whom he thanked so much for the donation of more than 500 thousand AstraZeneca vaccines received through the COVAX mechanism, such as the support given in the Declaration on the Malvinas Question during the last sessions of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).

Fernández is in Rome participating in the summit of the 20 most important economies in the world that began on Saturday and ended today.

In addition to the meetings on Sunday, the president also met with the head of the International Monetary Fund, Krystalina Georgieva, and with the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, among others.
