Barisan Boar Fighting is Assessed by PDI-P’s Guided Democracy Resistance

Jakarta

The expression of a wild boar that was made by the Chairman of the Central Java PDIP DPD, Bambang Wuryanto, towards supporters of Ganjar Pranowo was immediately executed by PDIP cadres by making a long-toothed boar logo. A number of PDIP cadres madeThe Fighting Boar Line‘.

Indostrategic’s Executive Director, Khoirul Umam, sees the emergence of the ‘Barisan Boar Berjuang’ as a resistance to the PDIP’s guided democracy style. Umam assessed that PDIP needed to absorb input from a number of cadres.

“As a party that uses the term ‘democracy’ in its name, PDIP should act more democratically. If it really comes from cadres, the Boar Berjuang logo is a symbol of resistance to the ‘guided democracy’ style of leadership which does not exist in any variant of the theory of democracy. ,” Umam told reporters on Tuesday (12/10/2021).

Umam’s guided democracy means that input from cadres is not open. PDIP cadres are forced to follow the elite’s decision, said Umam, it will cause division.

“Not opening a space for freedom of expression, where cadres are forced to submit to elite decisions, has the potential to create unproductive frictions,” he said.

According to Umam, PDIP needs to restore the democratic character within the party. So that differences in the attitudes of cadres can be accommodated to be considered in making decisions.

“Therefore, party organizations need to restore their democratic character to channel differences in political views and attitudes in the decision-making system within it,” he said.

So, is it necessary for PDIP to impose sanctions on cadres who voice the fighting boar? Umam sees that there are two sides to what PDIP can do.

“It depends. If you want to maintain the guided democracy model, sanctions will be used as an instrument for enforcing discipline. But if you want to be democratic, sanctions don’t need to be used,” he added.
