Mexico begins vaccination against COVID for migrants crossing the country – El Financiero

Through the National Institute of Migration (INM), the Ministry of the Interior reported this Monday that Mexico began vaccination against COVID-19 of irregular migrants who are in the country.

He indicated that, so far, the dose has been applied to 99 foreigners -23 women and 76 men- from Cuba, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela and Haiti, in vaccination days supported by the National Guard and the Secretariat of the Well-being, with the due protection of the inoculation material.

He announced that INM staff, in coordination with state authorities of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), began a vaccination campaign against COVID-19 among migrants housed at the Siglo XXI Migration Station, in Tapachula, Chiapas.


In addition – he specified – the Cansino vaccine – one dose – was provided to security elements and the company that provides cleaning services in these facilities.

To do this, a mobile IMSS module was installed in the immigration headquarters, where medical personnel and nurses carry out these tasks. The vaccination will be extended to all people at INM facilities in Chiapas, the INM announced.

The INM, dependent on the Ministry of the Interior, reiterated its commitment to “maintain safe, orderly and regular migration, with full safeguarding and respect for the rights of people in the context of mobility.”
