Italy won the men’s volleyball European Championships

The Italian national team won the men’s volleyball European Championships. In the final, Italy coached by Fefè De Giorgi beat Slovenia at the tie break. Two weeks ago the women’s national team had also won the European Championships beating Serbia in the final. At the Spodek Arena in Katowice, Poland, it was a very close match: Slovenia started very well and imposed themselves above all in the service, but from the first set Italy showed that they have the ability to stay in the game despite the difficulties in receiving and a few too many errors in the service.

The Italian national team recovered the disadvantage in the second and fourth set before winning the tie break thanks to an excellent Alessandro Michieletto who placed a series of points in the decisive moment of the match. Slovenia, which had more experienced players than the Azzurri, was no longer able to recover. Italy’s captain, Simone Giannelli, was awarded as the best player of the tournament. The Italian national team started the new cycle with a victory: in the last Olympic tournament it was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Argentina.
