tragedy

The curse of the Kennedys has already claimed victims

Washington. Wind speeds up to 60 km / h, waves one meter high – the warning from the National Weather Service for Chesapeake Bay off the coast of the US state of Maryland was unmistakable: “Inexperienced sailors, especially those with smaller boats, should avoid navigating in risky weather conditions”.

Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean, Great niece of the murdered United States President John F. Kennedy and granddaughter of the Minister of Justice, who was also murdered Robert Kennedy, apparently didn’t think about it when she and her son Gideon got into a canoe in a small bay near Shady Side near the coastal town of Annapolis without life jackets.

Mother (40) and son (8) only wanted to retrieve a ball that had fallen into the water while playing behind their mother’s house, Maryland’s former vice governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, when the wind drove the small boat out onto Chesapeake Bay on the Atlantic on Thursday – they never came back. Had the Kennedys curse struck again? Kennedy clans, one of the most prominent families in America, who has suffered severe stroke of fate for decades, has apparently already grown another sad chapter.

Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean: Rescue efforts were unsuccessful

Immediately initiated rescue operations on water and from the air, as Governor Larry Hogan said, remained unsuccessful until Friday evening. Only the canoe and a paddle were discovered ten kilometers south. With water temperatures around ten degrees, said a representative of the coast guard, “the chances of survival drop to zero after five hours.” From then on, the rescue operation became a rescue operation with divers and sonar devices. So far (as of April 5, 1 p.m. CET) without success.

“It is clear that Maeve and Gideon died,” husband David McKean wrote on Facebook on Friday, “the search to rescue them will continue.” McKean mourns together with the other two children in the family, Gabriella (7) and Toby (2).

In the summer, Kennedy family member died of drug overdose

The saga of the Kennedy clan, which has been suffering from fatal blows from murder to plane crash for decades, has thus been added to a sad chapter. Just last summer, at the age of 22, Saoirse Kennedy Hill, the granddaughter of Ethel Kennedy (91), the wife of Justice Minister Robert Kennedy, who was shot in 1968, died of an overdose at the family summer residence in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the victim’s mother and daughter of Robert Kennedy, was shocked. “My heart is broken. Our Maeve dedicated her life entirely to helping the weakest in society. ”The 40-year-old most recently worked as an assistant professor of bioethics and human rights at Georgetown University in Washington.

Just last summer, Saoirse Kennedy Hill had died of drug overdose at the age of 22. She was the granddaughter of Ethel Kennedy (91), the wife of Justice Minister Robert Kennedy, who was shot in 1968.

Once again, what the former New York governor Mario Cuomo once described with the “almost inexplicable concentration of tragedies”, “the accumulation of which is almost classic among the Kennedys” came true.

Curse of the Kennedys family has experienced countless tragedies

The tragedy series started as early as the 1940s. In 1944, Joseph Kennedy Jr., the eldest brother of President John F. Kennedy, who was later murdered, died as a naval pilot in a bombing operation over Europe.

His sister Kathleen Agnes Kennedy died in 1948 in a plane crash in France. Another sister, Rosemarie Kennedy, remained mentally disabled after a failed brain operation. In 1963 the assassination attempt on the US President shook the world John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas.

Just a few months earlier was John’s son Patrick Bouvier Kennedy died shortly after birth. JFK’s wife Jacqueline (Jackie) died of cancer in 1994.

1968 was John’s brother Robert shot dead during a campaign appearance in Los Angeles. Robert’s son David died in 1984 at the age of 28 from an overdose of heroin. His brother Michael died in a skiing accident on New Year’s Eve 1997 at the age of 39.

1999 disappeared John F. Kennedy junior, whose photo went around the world at his father’s funeral as a three-year-old, piloting a private plane on the way to his cousin’s wedding on Martha’s Vineyard. With him on board the plane that crashed into the Atlantic were his wife Carolyn and her sister Lauren Bessette.
