Positive at Covid, he goes to work and to the gym: 22 infected
The police of the Spanish island communicated it. After an outbreak in Manacor three months ago, the police had launched an investigation on the basis of some information according to which an employee of a food plant had been “infected but had hidden his disease”.
Eight people contracted the virus after direct contact with the man in the workplace and in the gym he attended and another 14 indirectly. The arrested man had gone to his place with a fever of 40 degrees and had walked around the plant without a mask, threatening to infect his colleagues. Five of his colleagues had been infected and had in turn spread the virus among family members. For a total of 22 infections on the Balearic island which had long recorded zero cases of coronavirs. None of the 22 infected people resorted to hospital treatment.
According to what emerged from the investigations, the man, at the end of a working day, seeing that his health was not improving, finally went to a medical center to undergo a PCR test. However, instead of staying home in quarantine waiting for the result, as established by protocol, he had decided to go to work the next day and then go to the gym to play sports. Both his colleagues and the plant manager ordered him to go home several times because he was waiting for the test results and had to remain isolated as a precaution. He didn’t listen to him.
He walked around without a mask and coughed: “I will infect you all”
During the investigation, some employees of the premises said that that day the detainee had a fever of 40 degrees and was walking around the plant with the mask down, coughing hard and saying “I will infect you all”. Employees tried to walk away from him because they were certain he had Covid. Later that same day the medical center informed him that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.
The facility’s workers were quarantined and subjected to a PCR test. Five employees were infected and, in turn, passed the virus to several relatives, including three children as young as one year old. In the gym frequented by the man in those days, three other people were infected, which in turn spread the virus to the people around them as well. The final balance was 22 infected.
After going to court on Friday, the man was released, and is charged with injuries.
