Easyjet also keeps fleet on the ground, Eindhoven Airport partly closed | NOW

The corona virus creates a gap in air traffic. Eindhoven Airport is also shrinking and after the weekend will remain mainly open for passenger flights for repatriation. In addition, after KLM, Ryanair and Transavia, budget airline easyJet also announced that it would keep the majority of the fleet on the ground from Tuesday 24 March.

“We continue to conduct rescue flights to repatriate customers and expect most of our rescue operations to be completed by Monday March 23,” easyJet wrote in a statement.

Only 10 percent of regular flights will continue, mainly to, from and within the UK. With the measure, easyJet wants to save unnecessary costs and heed the advice not to travel.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezing and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Nearly all deaths involve the elderly or other frail, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
