Barbara Christian from Gamlitz has lived in New York City for many years. Many people have contacted her in the past few days about how she is doing. Tonight she reported to WOCHE Leibnitz.

I hope you are all doing well and staying home. In the last few days I have received a lot of messages and calls from Europe, so it is probably time to report.
I am fine! NY State is on break. Like many of my friends, I’m one of the lucky ones who made the switch to working from home pretty seamlessly. I’ve been working from home for over two weeks and rarely leave the apartment to go shopping or to catch some sun and fresh air. Most of my friends and acquaintances also strictly adhere to the guidelines. Everyone is encouraged to work from home unless you are doing public work. A distance of at least two meters is recommended and any gathering of people is prohibited. Everyone tries to make their contribution and has as few contacts as possible.
We are currently working feverishly on additional hospital beds. Conference centers are being converted into field hospitals to accommodate as many sick people as possible who need intensive care. The peak is expected in two to three weeks and we all hope that we can influence the contagion curve downwards. Allegedly, 62,000 volunteers (including medical students and retired doctors) have signed up to increase the health workforce in New York State.

In New York too, queues form in front of larger grocery stores because only a few are allowed in at the same time. “The current photos are from a friend who lives near TimesSquare,” reports Christian Barbara. She wishes everyone good health and appeals: “Stay at home!”
