Beijing Boosts $ 2.1 Billion In Consumption Thanks To Electronic Coupons

BEIJING, Jan.5 (Xinhua) – Beijing distributed 39 million e-coupons during a seven-month campaign in 2020 to stimulate consumption that had been slowed by the COVID-19 epidemic.

The coupons, offered through multiple online platforms such as JD.com and Meituan, helped generate a total sales volume of 13.52 billion yuan (about $ 2.1 billion), according to a press release issued Tuesday by the Bureau. Beijing Municipal Trade.

The coupons were used in the restaurants and retail stores incorporated into this initiative in the capital, in order to buy products with smart technologies and also on online food delivery platforms.

During the campaign aimed at promoting consumption, more than 1,000 activities were organized in areas such as restaurants, shopping, culture, tourism, entertainment, education, sports and physical exercises.

In addition, a live online broadcast contest was held that attracted the participation of more than 300 companies, according to the statement.

The campaign started in June 2020 after the epidemic had been basically controlled.
