Fewer and fewer purchases
Fewer and fewer households are buying new cars. Sales of cars to individuals fell below a million vehicles last year on a global market of 2.2 million vehicles (see below) registered in France.
Today, reminds BFMTV, 56% of new cars are registered by companies, fleets and rental companies, not by households.
There are many causes. Among them, the fact that companies are increasingly offering company cars. Otherwise, people keep their cars longer. In the 1980s, 7% of households changed vehicles each year. They are only 3% now.
On the personal market, the Sandero lost 8% of registrations in 2019 compared to 2018. The Peugeot 208, second model most bought by French households, shows a drop of 27%.
1.88% increase in new car registrations in France in 2019
The French automobile market grew in 2019, with a 1.88% increase in new passenger car registrations, the Committee of French Automobile Manufacturers (CCFA) announced on Wednesday in raw data.
Have been commissioned in total 2,214,278 new cars last year, said the Committee.
On the market sharing between French and foreign manufacturers for the whole of 2019, the former saw their share decrease slightly to 56.81%, compared to 57.37% at the end of 2018.
Foreign manufacturers see their annual market share increase to 43.19%, compared to 42.63% last year.
