Stricter protective measures in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, stricter protective measures to contain corona infections apply. According to a decision by the cabinet on Tuesday, people now have to wear face masks even in frequently frequented places or streets. In order to prevent people from gathering in front of shops or at mulled wine stands, the serving of alcohol in public is prohibited. Stricter protective regulations apply to nursing homes in which corona infections have recently occurred more frequently. This means that residents can only be visited by one relative a day.
The mask requirement is expanded, there is a ban on serving alcohol and there is one week of distance learning for students from the 7th grade. more

From today serving ban on alcohol in Hamburg
In order to contain the corona pandemic, the sale of alcoholic beverages intended for immediate consumption is prohibited throughout Hamburg from today – “especially in glasses, mugs or one-way beverage containers,” as the Senate announced yesterday. The ban, which applies around the clock, does not extend to commercially closed beverage bottles, cans or bags. So far, only in parts of the Schanzenviertel, Ottensens and Winterhude are no “mulled wine to go” sold from 4 p.m.
From now on alcohol can no longer be sold openly anywhere in Hamburg. However, there is a threat of further tightening of the corona rules. more

Corona vaccine is temporarily stored in barracks
The Bundeswehr will provide its barracks as an interim storage facility for the corona vaccine. Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer (CDU) told the Funke media group that wherever it seemed sensible, the vaccine could be stored in barracks. In addition, the Bundeswehr is helping all countries that want it with up to 26 vaccination centers and up to 26 mobile vaccination teams. The Defense Minister emphasized that more than 9,000 soldiers are currently already on the Corona mission. Most of them worked in the health departments, but many also in hospitals and nursing homes.

German Association of Cities promotes harder lockdown after Christmas
The German Association of Cities is campaigning for a harder lockdown after Christmas. Managing Director Helmut Dedy told the “Saarbrücker Zeitung”: “The time after the holidays is an ideal time for a lockdown.” Schools and daycare centers are closed, there are company holidays, many people are on vacation “and you don’t necessarily have to go shopping after Christmas”. Dedy is promoting a shutdown from December 28th to around January 10th.

New high for nationwide deaths
The number of deaths related to the coronavirus reported within 24 hours has skyrocketed and has reached a new nationwide high. The health authorities reported 590 new deaths within a day to the Robert Koch Institute, as shown by the RKI figures from the morning. That is over 100 cases more than the previous record of 487 deaths last Wednesday. A total of 20,815 new infections with the coronavirus were reported within 24 hours. On Wednesday in the previous week the value was 17,270. The highest daily value so far was on November 20 with 23,648 cases.

Schleswig-Holstein: Highest daily value of new infections
Schleswig-Holstein has within a day 314 new infections registered – more than ever since the beginning of the pandemic. So far, October 30th was the day with the most confirmed corona infections with 313 cases. The seven-day incidence is now 57.9 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week. Yesterday the value was 54.2 and on Wednesday a week ago it was 44.4. It is not yet known why this sharp increase in the number of infections occurred.
The state parliament in Kiel will deal with crisis management in the pandemic from 10 a.m. today. SPD parliamentary group leader Ralf Stegner had spoken of surprise tactics after the federal and state governments announced in the previous week that the partial lockdown would be extended to January 10th. After the current hour, Health Minister Heiner Garg (FDP) will report on the country’s corona vaccination strategy. The construction of 29 vaccination centers is in full swing.

Coronavirus update: Drosten for Christmas lockdown too
In the new episode of the podcast “Coronavirus Update”, the virologist Christian Drosten advocates a tough lockdown from December 24th. Drosten is referring to the one published today Statement by the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, in which other leading scientists besides him are calling for the measures to be tightened. According to this, schools are to close from December 14th and shops that are not used to supply food, medicines and other essential goods from Christmas Eve.

The confirmed infection numbers in the north of Tuesday: Lower Saxony reports 841 cases, Hamburg 281, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania 228, Schleswig-Holstein 183 and Bremen 110. Nationwide there were a little more than 14,000 new infections.
