Schumacher’s son Mick signs a contract with the F-1 team Haas / Day

The team reports that the contract with the new rider has been concluded for several years.

“I’m glad that Mick has joined the team, so I’m looking forward to welcoming him,” said team director Günter Steiner. “Judging by his performance, I truly believe he deserves a chance at F-1.”

The team will also be represented next season by 21-year-old Russian athlete Nikita Mazepin. He also has a contract for several years.

Haas has already announced that the current pilots Kevin Magnussen and Romens Grožāns will not represent the unit next season.

21-year-old Schumacher will be crowned Formula 2 (F-2) champion this weekend. Meanwhile, Mazepin ranks third in the overall standings.

“The fact that I’ll be an F-1 pilot next year makes me dumb,” Schumacher said. “I would like to thank the Haas team, Ferrari and also the Ferrari Academy of Young Riders who have trusted me so far. Special thanks also to my parents, to whom I owe a lot.”

Mazepin has previously tested the F-1 car in the Force India team and will be the fourth Russian driver in this class. Vitaly Petrov, Segey Sirotkin and Daniil Kvjats, who is still in the series, have also tried their hand at F-1.

Mazepin, 21, is the son of billionaire Dmitry Mazepin.

Meanwhile, last weekend Grožāns, who was injured in a terrible accident on Tuesday, has already been discharged from the hospital, but this weekend, Brazilian Pietro Fitipaldi will take his place at the wheel of the car.

After 15 stages, Lewis Hamilton has 332 points, followed by British teammate Valter Botass with 201 points, and the best of the other teams with 189 points is Max Verstapen from Red Bull from the Netherlands.

The victory in the Constructors’ Cup has already been ensured by the “Mercedes” team.

A record number of races were planned this season (22), but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the calendar was shortened to 17 stages.

Also last season, Hamilton was crowned world champion, triumphing for the sixth time in his career and for the third time in a row.
