In Germany, doctors warned of an increase in the incidence of influenza, including a high risk of eye flu, which is much less known, but very serious and dangerous. Experts are calling for the prevention of eye flu, since there is no cure for it, writes the Medic Forum.

– The initial symptoms resemble conjunctivitis. First, one eye turns red, then swells, there is a sensation of a foreign body, itching, increased sensitivity to light. The incubation period of the infection is from 5 to 12 days, at the first signs of the disease you become infectious, – said the doctors of the Federal Center for Health Education.

They recalled the eye flu epidemic that broke out in Bonn in 2016: antibiotics were then powerless, and the outbreak was an outbreak of diseases of the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, and eyes.

– Eye flu viruses are extremely drug resistant and contagious. Even after several weeks, patients complain of blurred eyes, the doctors said.

They said that it is possible to get eye flu by contact of hands, for example, by shaking hands. Also dangerous in this regard can be door handles, handrails.

How to protect yourself from infection with eye flu?

– Hygiene – the main measure of protection: you need to regularly wash your hands thoroughly. If a disease occurs in the house, disinfect all surfaces. There are no drugs to treat the infection. Eye drops with the active ingredient cyclosporine can somewhat relieve discomfort, the doctors added.
