Former soccer world champion Jürgen Kohler has to look for a new job as a result of the corona crisis. The contract, which expires in the summer with the 54-year-old, his employer Viktoria Köln announced on Wednesday, will not be extended.
Kohler’s understanding of the decision
“We are putting a lot of things to the test because of the corona pandemic. One issue is to work more economically in the youth sector and to restructure it,” said sports director Franz Wunderlich, explaining the split.
Kohler had last looked after the U19 of Cologne, but also celebrated the rise of the men’s team into the 3rd division as an interim coach.
“I had a lot of fun working at Viktoria, it was two wonderful years,” said Kohler, world champion in 1990: “I understand that changes are necessary. This gives me the opportunity to be available for other – prospectively interesting – projects . “
