9 Indonesian Citizens Detained in Chernihiv Successfully Get Out of Ukraine

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu RI) Retno Marsudi reported, as of today, Friday (18/3/2022), nine Indonesian citizens trapped in a plastic factory in Chernihiv, Ukraine has been successfully evacuated.

“Efforts to evacuate Indonesian citizens from Chernihiv continue to be carried out, but only today were they successfully evacuated via the Kyiv route to Lviv and then across to Poland,” Retno said in a press briefing conducted online.

With the successful evacuation of nine Indonesian citizens from Chernigiv, a total of 133 Indonesian citizens have been successfully evacuated from Ukraine.

Meanwhile, as many as 32 Indonesian citizens decided to remain in the country.

“There are 32 Indonesian citizens who choose to live in Ukraine, on average for family reasons, besides that nine people are essential staff of the Indonesian Embassy in Lviv,” said Retno.

The Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, said that the nine Indonesian citizens were successfully evacuated from the plastic factory where they took refuge on March 17, 2022.

With details, on March 14, the Indonesian citizens were picked up from the factory where they worked to the bunker in the city center and planned to be immediately dispatched to Kyiv.

“But then in Kyiv there was curfew (curfew), because Kyiv is our evacuation route. Curfew It will only be revoked on March 17, when it will be revoked in the morning of March 17, at 09.00 local time, it will depart from Chernihiv to Kyiv,” said Judha.

“Then at 14.20 our friends arrived in Kyiv, then we headed to Lviv and arrived at 00.20 in the morning, and earlier at 11.00 Lviv time, we were on our way to the border, now we are in Poland,” continued Judha.

Judha also said that currently there are 11 Indonesian citizens in Poland and they will depart for Indonesia on March 20.

Before traveling back to Indonesia, Indonesian citizens first conduct a health check.

“There are 11 Indonesian citizens who are currently in a safe zone in Poland, God willing, soon after the health check, on the 20th we will return to Jakarta using a commercial aircraft and on the 21st they will arrive in Indonesia,” said Retno Marsudi.
