Four health personnel workers in Venezuela died in the last 48 hours as a result of the coronavirus, reported the NGO Doctors United.
The deceased were identified as Alexander Chagng, a doctor from the Capital District; Irene Valera, Aragua state nurse; Luis Marina Farías, Anzoátegui state physician, and Valentín López, hospital worker from the Capital District.
With this new NGO registration, until August 19, 80 union workers died from covid-19, which represents 25% of those who died from the disease in the country.
Hundreds of doctors and nurses have repeatedly denounced that they do not have the biosafety implements to protect themselves against the pandemic, which has affected 36,868 people in the country.
A recent report of Amnesty International says that the Venezuelan state is failing in measures to protect the population and in particular the doctors, nurses and workers of hospitals and clinics who are being seriously affected, and are even imprisoning those who denounce terrible working conditions.
Venezuela appears as a clear example of retaliation by the State against health personnel. Since Amnesty International began monitoring the union’s situation on the American continent in early April, Venezuela is the only country that has imprisoned those who have spoken out publicly about the risks to their safety and that of patients.
Report #19Ago In the last 48 hours, we received notification of 4 new deceased health sector workers with criteria for Covid-19, raising the figure to 80. Probably some are not included in the 303 announced nationally.#SalvemosLaSaludOtiNotiSalud pic.twitter.com/PISx6bEomx
