8 Reasons PSSI Want to Shopee Liga 1 2020 Continue Again

Jakarta

PSSI announced the continuation of Shopee League 1, League 2 and League 3 2020, on Sunday (6/28/2020). There are eight things that are the reason for PSSI to play the competition again.

Through a Decree (SK) numbered SKEP / 53 / VI / 2020 signed by PSSI General Chairman Mochamad Iriawan on Saturday (27/6), PSSI wants the competition to be rolled out starting next October. The decision was taken after a long discussion with representatives of players, coaches, clubs in League 1, League 2, League 3, and academics at the University of Indonesia (UI).

The decree becomes the official decision of PSSI as well as a substitute decree issued on March 27 when determining the force majeure status of the competition. Previously, PSSI had decided the continuation of the competition through a meeting of the Executive Committee (Exco).

There are some broad lines that are considered for the continuation of the competition. Starting from the new normal campaign, the Indonesian national team, to economic reasons.

Here are 8 reasons PSSI decided to continue the competition in League 1, League 2 and League 3:

1. New Normal Campaign

Football can be a new normal model that has been campaigned by the government. The success of the competition in the midst of the corona virus pandemic is expected to be an example for the community.

“First we need a campaign through football, that Indonesia has begun to adapt and learn with the new normal situation, which is by implementing health protocols through football competitions. This is a good campaign for us, some leagues have done this in Europe and Asian countries, yes, if we don’t start, we never know when this COVID-19 will stop, “said PSSI Chairperson Mochamad Iriawan.

2. Learn from the vacuum of competition in 2015

Indonesian soccer has been vacuum due to sanctions against PSSI by FIFA in 2015. The 2015 QNB League competition which has been running for three weeks has stopped completely.

There is no official football activity up to the level of the Indonesian national team. As a result, there was a generation that was cut off due to the vacuum of domestic soccer activities.

“Secondly, we have experience of FIA dissection, that is when there is no competition, the result is that Indonesian football is not good in international eyes and that also has an impact on national football, of course,” said Iriawan.

3. The interests of the Indonesian national team

The corona virus pandemic has delayed various international agendas of the Indonesian national team to the age group. Various schedules that should have been held at the beginning of the year were shifted to the middle of the year until the end of the year.

As a result, the schedule became solid. PSSI wants Indonesian national team players to remain competitive through domestic competition.

“Third, the competition is being done now for the benefit of the national team going forward, because if the competition stops then the national team cannot improve its performance properly. Indeed there is a TC, but unlike the competition, of course, players should always compete with the players themselves will feel quality,” he said.

4-5. Indonesian U-20 national team container before the 2021 U-20 World Cup

Indonesia will host the 2021 U-20 World Cup. PSSI wants Indonesia to be successful in its achievements, not just as an organizer.

Domestic competition is expected to be a place for players to hone their skills before appearing at a grand event. There is a discourse on club regulation that is required to play U-20 players in order to realize the ambition to excel at the upcoming U-20 World Cup.

“Fourth, also for the benefit of our national team later in the U-20 World Cup, when they will not TC, the players can compete in their respective clubs. So once TC is finished they can play, both in League 1 and League 2 because “in general they already have clubs all over Indonesia,” said Iriawan.

“Fifth, even if the TC takes place, in general players will be called later only 23 to 30 people, now there are 44 so many. While players who are not called TC they will still feel the competition in their respective clubs according to their schedule,” he said.
