“8 days of blood stocks when it would take 12”, alarms the head of the EFS in Picardy

In the middle of the fifth wave of the coronavirus, the French Blood Establishment multiplies the messages and appeals for donations to bring up the level of stocks which have fallen dangerously.

“We have returned to the alarming threshold of October”, explains Thomas Diart, responsible for the EFS in Picardy. “We had 73,000 bags of blood nationally before All Saints’ Day and the appeal launched by the EFS had made it possible to go back to 100,000 bags. There, we are again at 76,000 bags everywhere in France”, details t -he.

More collections in companies

The EFS has been facing difficulties related to the health crisis for almost two years. “We can no longer make collections in companies or in high schools for example”, explains Thomas Diart. The habits of even the most regular donors have changed. “When you’re teleworking, you’re not necessarily going to leave your home to donate blood.”
