7,315 violations and 10 traffic accidents

IN JUNE 2023 ON THE CONTINENT

With the aim of continuously informing and raising citizens’ awareness of road safety issues, aggregated-comparative data concerning traffic accidents and violations for June 2023, in relation to the corresponding period last year, are published.

Car accidents

In the territorial jurisdiction of Epirus there were –10-traffic accidents (against -14-in 2022). In particular, the following were noted:

  • no fatal traffic accidents (vs. -2-in 2022)
  • -1-traffic accident with serious personal injury as in 2022.
  • -9-traffic accidents with minor personal injury (versus -11- in 2022)

Of the traffic accidents that occurred in urban and rural areas of the prefectures, they were recorded in total -14-sufferers (versus –19-the 2022). In particular, they were recorded:

  • no one dead (against -2-in 2022)
  • -1- seriously injured as in 2022
  • -13- slightly injured (against -16– in 2022)

The main causes of traffic accidents, as revealed by the police traffic investigation, were:

  • Speeding
  • Priority violation
  • Traffic in the opposite stream
  • Failure to maintain safety distance
  • Weather conditions
  • Intoxication

Traffic policing actions

In order to prevent traffic accidents, systematic checks were carried out on the road network of Epirus, which had the result of confirming overall 7,315 violations, of which single out the dangerous ones, as they lead directly to the traffic accident or decisively influence its outcome.

Specifically, they confirmed:

1,628 for speeding

376 for not wearing a helmet while driving

315 for not wearing a seat belt while driving

170 for using a mobile phone while driving

125 for movement in the opposite traffic flow/irregular overtaking/irregular manoeuvre

72 for driving under the influence of alcohol (drunkenness)

44 for a red light violation

35 for worn tires

It is also noted that last month (120) violations were confirmed for driving license deprivation, (63) violations concerning uninsured vehicles and (1,271) commercial vehicle violations.
