It took a while for 5G technology to become public and it hasn’t taken over the world yet. However, 6G technology has already made impressive strides. According to the latest data, one of the Chinese institutes has made huge strides, where the lab has achieved 6G 100Gbps wireless data rates.

The latest tests were carried out by the 25th Institute of the Chinese Academy of Aerospace Science and Industry. The breakthrough was achieved at the terahertz level, which is classified as one of the most important elements of the standard. If you’re unfamiliar, the terahertz or THz range provides more bandwidth, resulting in increased speed and performance in wireless communications.

It may be some time before the public release of 6G. In terms of values, 100 Gbps wireless data transmission in 10 GHz bandwidth using wireless backhaul technology was successfully completed during testing. This technology is expected to provide lower latency compared to fiber optic networks. Currently, users prefer wired fiber optic cables to wireless data transmission due to the lack of higher speeds. Using the THz bands, 6G will be able to easily compete with fiber. Eventually, the concept of wired networks will become obsolete. However, it is too early to speculate, as it will take a lot of time and funding for the technology to finally see the light of day.

In terms of expectations, 6G will finally open the door to 1Tbps data rates, but that alone won’t be enough as existing spectrum needs to be upgraded to support the standard. With this in mind, mobile frequency bands are also being upgraded to mmWave and higher THz frequency bands. As mentioned earlier, 5G is gradually picking up speed to become the new standard. Until the standard is made available to the public, researchers will continue to test and refine the technology to make it easily accessible to the end user. The current assumption is that 6G will be available by 2030. In addition, the United States is competing with China to launch this technology.
