According to Epidemiologist from Griffith University Australia, Dicky Budiman, global, regional and national trends are relatively the same.

In addition, several recent studies have shown the challenges of drug and vaccine discovery for Covid-19

“Then there is no other choice for the world including Indonesia to conduct the Covid-19 elimination program,” he said when contacted Kompas.com, Sunday (6/28/2020).

Meanwhile, seeing the number of Covid-19 daily cases reported in Indonesia today, Dicky said the possibility of an increase in cases could still occur in the future.

“Will continue to happen (the trend of increasing cases), because the current positive case or death due to Covid-19 is the fruit of transmission that occurred 2 weeks ago (the longest incubation to 28 days),” explained Dicky.

Not yet peak

Although the number of new cases reported every day in Indonesia has entered an average of 1,000, Dicky said that the condition has not yet shown a peak.

“It’s not yet the peak and the potential for rising is huge,” he said.

According to him, indications when the test coverage was still lacking or that there were still many positive cases in the community that had not been detected were from positive rate-New.

“Nationally, the average is still above 11 percent, ideally 5 percent and below. That, too, on condition that the number of tests remains high, not lowered,” he added.

As for the high coverage of this test, it will function to keep the health service sufficient or not overload as many patients need an ICU or ventilator.

Dicky also mentioned another test indicator, namely the mortality rate.

“If the death rate is still there, it means that we are relatively behind the speed of Covid-19 transmission,” he continued.

Dicky also reminded that cases of corona virus transmission do not only occur in communities through local transmission, but also cases of imports, both from abroad or outside the region.

“This means that the control program carried out within the region (tests, case tracking, isolation, and behavior change) cannot be separated from tightening at the entrance of the country or region,” he explained.

“In addition, it becomes very important to instill understanding that this is a shared responsibility. Each of us has a very important role to inhibit or slow down the transmission of Covid-19,” he continued.

The steps that can be taken to reduce the spread of Covid-19 is to change behavior.

“Wearing a mask, washing your hands, and keeping a distance (3M) is very basic and useful for helping to curve the curve,” Dicky said.
