53 hours of darts was in vain: world record not for duo from Assen

The world record for darts is not in the hands of two men from Assen. At the end of October last year, Frank Posthumus and Wyan Alders set a world record with 53 hours of darts, they thought. A five-year-old record of almost 51 hours of continuous throwing arrows disappeared without any problems in the trash of a café in Assen.

But it now appears that a new record had already been set a few months before the Assense fire test. Two British players appeared to have played for 58 hours in July 2019, but that record had not yet been processed at Guinness World Records and so the Assenans knew nothing about it. After their record attempt, they discovered it by accident, they say today RTV Drenthe. And so there are not their names in the book, but two British people claim the honorable mention.

“This pisses us off, because you probably knew for a long time that we were making an effort that would be worth nothing. You had already had three months of evidence in your hands from the other record attempt,” the darters wrote to the book’s publisher.

Deliberately frustrating

In the eyes of Posthumus and Alders, the editors of Guinness World Records the record attempt deliberately to keep the record in British hands, as the British claim darts as a British sport. The darters say that a newly registered record will normally be processed within three months, so the British record from July should have been known by the end of October.

Guinness World Records rejects the allegations of the darters. They say they were also unaware of the record attempt by the British in July 2019 in October. “We do not have the capacity to continuously monitor each record that everyone has requested individually,” the publisher said.

The Drents say that they accept that their record will not be placed in the book. “We give the British the record, but the way of working Guinness World Records stabs us. That does not alter the fact that no one will wash away the pride we had when we broke the record, executed exactly according to the established rules of Guinness World Records“, says the duo at RTV Drenthe.
