50Plus wants Anbo top woman Liane den Haan as party leader | Inland

Den Haan has been nominated by the new board of the party, the members can still have their say there. 50Plus has recently argued with several candidates, including current MPs Corrie van Brenk and Leonie Sazias. They too are allowed to participate in the election campaign, says party chairman Jan Nagel. The name of senator Martin van Rooijen also sang around, but he himself thanked for the position.

Changes

Den Haan says in an initial response that the Netherlands is not yet ready ‘to serve the elderly in a good way’. “Changes cannot come quickly enough. If you think so, you should also take political responsibility, fortunately I get that opportunity at 50Plus. ”

Den Haan is nominated even if she is not yet a member of 50Plus. According to the rules of the party, a candidate top candidate must actually be a member for 1 year, but Nagel pointed out that the board may grant dispensation in that regard. Den Haan also pointed out that as director of Anbo she is party neutral and therefore could not be a member of a political party.

Den Haan’s nomination follows a period of many internal quarrels and hassle within the party. The entire board, including chairman Geert Dales and party leader Henk Krol, left in recent months.

Hassle

But Den Haan thinks that ‘it is not too bad’ with the hassle in the party. “Other parties have that too, but it is less likely to get into the press there.”

It remains to be seen when Den Haan will start working for 50Plus. She only informed Anbo of her departure on Monday morning: “I will discuss what my last working day at Anbo could be.” As party leader, she thinks she can help 50Plus with about ten seats.
