50-year-old cyclist on speed pedelec died after collision with … (Nijlen)

The cyclist moved on the towpath with a speed pedelec and was involved in an accident with a truck around 7.50 am. He left the towpath without cause, in a place where not even an exit or lowering of the curb is foreseen, to cross the road.

The truck driver who came from the direction of Merksem was unable to respond in time. The cyclist hit it head-on. Witnesses said the blow was massive. Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
