5 Side Effects of Covid-19 Vaccination

The Covid-19 vaccine has different side effects on the body.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Covid-19 vaccine has different side effects on the body. There are common side effects such as fever, fatigue and headaches, but there are also rare side effects.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists some of the rare side effects that vaccine recipients have reported, along with a description. Eat This on Friday (12/3).

1. Swollen lymph nodes

According to a new report, 15 to 20 percent of vaccine recipients have swollen lymph nodes, the appearance of which is similar to that associated with breast cancer. Swollen lymph nodes can be felt in the armpit area in both women and men and can even be seen on a mammogram.

“This effect mostly occurs in women. The first thing they think about is cancer, but it’s swollen lymph nodes,” said Dr. Andrea Porpiglia.

Fortunately, you don’t have to worry if you experience post-vaccination swelling. According to Porpiglia it’s just a normal immune response.

“When you get the vaccine, your body makes more cells to help fight the virus and by doing that you will have enlarged lymph nodes,” he said.

2. Chills

Shivering is one of the rare side effects reported by the CDC. Although it is usually mild, some people have fever and chills so badly that they have to be hospitalized.

Fortunately, these symptoms are temporary and should not discourage you from getting a second injection.

“Get a second shot even if you have side effects after the first, unless your vaccination provider or doctor tells you not to get a second shot,” insists the CDC.

3. Allergic reactions

The CDC states that people experience severe allergic reactions also known as anaphylaxis and non-severe allergic reactions to vaccines. For example, an allergic reaction is considered severe when a person needs to be treated with epinephrine or if they have to go to the hospital.

4. The side effects of the second injection can be more severe

Don’t be surprised if the side effects from the second dose of vaccine are worse. These reactions include swelling, pain, body aches, headaches and fever. This is common with other vaccines, because the body works extra hard to build up immunity.

5. Another rare side effect

There are also some side effects that are very rarely reported. For example, three patients who received the Moderna vaccine and four who received Pfizer developed Bell’s Palsy, a paralysis of the facial muscles that causes one side of the face to appear drooping.
