Tutankhamun, who is now a symbol of ancient Egypt, reigned for only a short time.

He became pharaoh when he was eight or nine and died ten years later.

His death was likely caused by poor general health, caused by a broken leg and a severe malaria infection.

Since the discovery of the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun 100 years ago, several facts have been revealed that may not be widely known.

Here are 5 facts about the pharaoh Tutankhamun as quoted by IFL science, Saturday (5/11/2022).

1. Tutankhamun’s curse

The curse of those who opened Tutankhamun’s tomb has been widely discussed. It happened especially after Carnarvon’s tragic death on April 5, 1923.

But apparently, the curse was just blatant news created by British newspapers.

There is nothing written on the grave about a curse for transgressors entering the grave.

A scientific article on Earl showed that nothing supernatural happened.

While other studies show that the average life expectancy of the people working at Tutankhamun’s tomb is very normal.

2. Archaeologist Carter stole from Tutankhamun’s tomb

Carnarvon’s death caused tensions between Carter and the Egyptian government over who should control access to the tomb.

This caused Carter to stop working on the tomb in 1924. Eventually, most of the tomb’s artifacts were kept in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

But apparently, Carter had pocketed some artifacts earlier. The rumors continued to circulate even up to 100 years after the excavation.

Until then, a few months ago, researchers found a letter linking him to the theft.

A total of 18 objects are believed to have come from Tutankhamun’s tomb. Now the artifact has been returned to Egypt.

3. Daggers from space

The treasures kept in Tutankhamun’s tomb are truly extraordinary. One of them is even made of extraterrestrial objects, namely iron daggers from meteorites.

This proves that the ancient Egyptians knew that the piece of iron sometimes fell from the sky and followed it when they saw it fall, then turned it into valuables.

This all happened 2000 years ago. So fabulous.

4. Achieved

Akhenaten, Tutankhamun’s father, married Nefertiti. Previously, Nefertiti was considered Tutankhamun’s mother.

But the genetic analysis turned out to show that his biological mother was Akhenaten’s sister, whose name is unknown, but she was called “Young Lady”.

Tutankhamun himself married his half-sister Ankhesenamun (daughter of Akhenaten and Nefertiti) and lost two daughters during their marriage. They have no other heirs.

5. Mummified with an erect penis

Carter reports that Tutankhamun was mummified with an erect penis, which was most likely intentional.

The pharaoh’s body was covered in pitch-black resin, something believed to honor Osiris, which was associated with fertility and rebirth.

So an erect penis could be another symbol of good luck for the pharaoh.

Tutankhamun’s body has now been returned to its original tomb after extensive restoration work.

The tomb has a fantastic appearance and has been arranged in such a way as to honor the pharaoh’s final resting place and preserve the place.
