Doan Van Hau returned to controversy at the 2022 AFF Cup. In the first leg of the 2022 AFF Cup semi-final against Indonesia, Van Hau was twice recorded as being rude to a Garuda Squad player.
The duel between the Indonesian and Vietnamese national teams at Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) ended in a 0-0 draw on Friday (6/1).
Van Hau has long been in the spotlight for his crafty game. Lucky for the 23-year-old player, because he always benefits from referee penalties, especially red cards.
The tough game returned in this year’s AFF Cup. Not just once or twice, but during the tournament held every two years there have been five “major” incidents involving Doan Van Hau.
Interestingly, five major incidents due to Van Hau’s behavior occurred as Vietnam faced Malaysia in the group stage and Indonesia in the first leg of the 2022 AFF Cup semi-finals.

1. Azam Azmi
Doan Van Hau elbowed Azam Azmi who was about to win the ball in the Vietnam penalty area in the 16th minute. In the video circulating on social media, Van Hau clearly elbowed Azmi in the face with his right elbow. There was no red card for Van Hau’s move.
2. Sharul Naziem
After Azmi, it was Sharul Nazeem’s turn to be “tricked” by Van Haum. During the duel, Van Hau threw back his right hand which hit Nazeem’s chest. Realizing he was being hit on purpose, Nazeem hit Van Hau on the head from behind.
3. Azam Azmi
Azam Azmi was twice involved in an incident with Doan Van Hau in Group B match at My Dinh Stadium. Disaster for Azmi and Malaysia in the ‘second battle’ with Van Hau.
Because Azmi got a red card and Malaysia conceded a penalty in the 56th minute. The incident started when Azam Azmi was pushed by Van Hau and hit a billboard.
When the two were lying on the court, Azmi threw a right foot that hit Van Hau’s head. Azmi was sent off and Malaysia were awarded a penalty.
4. Dendy Sulistyawan
Not enough to be in the spotlight against Malaysia, Van Hau again took action against Indonesia in the first leg of the semi-finals of the 2022 AFF Cup. In the 54th minute, Van Hau tackled Dendy with both feet. No red card, not even a yellow card for Van Hau. Although many believe Van Hau’s action deserves a red card.
5. Ricky Kambuaya
Van Hau doesn’t know when to play dirty “jokes” on the pitch. In the second half of stoppage time, Kambuaya’s foot, who was able to touch the ball first, was beaten by Van Hau. There have been no violations let alone sanctions for Indonesia.
