5 crore remains of the scam; Here is the skeleton of ‘Life’!

Thrissur ∙ The Life Mission complex in Vadakanchery Charalparam lies like a haunted house as a remnant of corruption. Concrete pillars of 140 flats stand ‘upside down’ as a sign of mismanagement. The money spent so far has been wasted. In the middle of the green forest, only the concrete jungle remains.

The flat was built by diverting the funds provided by the International Red Cross Society to the Life Mission for rehabilitating the flood victims. It was illegal for the state to receive foreign aid directly from the start.

The then MLA Anil Akkara had stated that 6 families had lost their homes in the flood in Vadakancheri constituency and had given them houses. So the beneficiaries should be found from the life plan list. The health center, which was not included in the LIFE project as it was a rehabilitation project for flood victims, also started work.

During the investigation of the gold smuggling case, it was also found that one crore rupees found in the joint bank locker of Sivashankar’s chartered accountant and Swapna was withdrawn from the account of Santhosh Eepan, who undertook the construction of Vadakancheri flats, and the project came under the shadow of corruption.

As the investigation revealed a total corruption of around 5 crore rupees and out of this, around 4 crore rupees were converted into dollars and smuggled abroad, the project came to a standstill. By this time the pillars of the buildings and the 4-storied Warka had already been completed and the walling had begun.

English Summary: Wadakkanchery Life Mission flat
