Shin Tae Yong managed to bring Indonesia Under 20 national team at the U-20 Asian Cup with a series of impressive records. Here are five crazy STY records after Indonesia’s qualification for the U-20 Asian Cup.
The certainty of Garuda Nusantara’s squad for the continental youth competition was achieved after defeating Vietnam with a score of 3-2 on Sunday (18/9).
The match was dramatic. Indonesia started the lead with a fine goal from Marselino Ferdinand in the 60th minute.

Vietnam equalized with Khuat Van Khang’s goal in the 66th minute. The Young Golden Star even took the lead in the 79th minute thanks to Dinh Xuan Thien.
However, the Indonesian Under 20 national team did not give up. Team captain Muhammad Ferrari equalized in the 82nd minute with a header. Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium roared again after Rabbani Tasnim secured Indonesia’s victory after scoring a goal in the 85th minute.

1. Perfect result in the preliminary round
The Indonesian Under-20 national team achieved excellent results in the preliminary round of Group F of the Under-20 Asian Cup. Ronaldo Kwateh and his friends swept three games away with one win.
Indonesia’s first victory came from a match against East Timor, which ended 4-0. The hosts continued their positive trend by beating Hong Kong 5-1.
In the decisive match, Indonesia finished the preliminary round well. The score of 3-2 solidified the steps of Robi Darwis and her colleagues to qualify for the U-20 Asian Cup.

2. Break the egg against Vietnam
For almost three years Shin Tae Yong hasn’t tasted victory against Vietnam since he coached the Indonesian national team. Four matches against Vietnam in various age groups always bear bitter rewards.
In the Indonesian senior national team, they lost 0-4 and were forced to draw 0-0. In the Indonesian Under 23 national team, Indonesia was also folded 0-3.
Likewise in the 2022 AFF U-19 Cup, when Indonesia was forced to play pointless against Vietnam U-19. It was only in the qualification for the U-20 Asian Cup that Shin Tae Yong managed to win against Vietnam with the U-20 national team.
