460 companies in the country are willing to buy vaccines and donate them

(CRHoy.com). -More than 460 companies in Costa Rica are willing to purchase COVID-19 vaccines at cost and donate them, in order to accelerate the vaccination campaign in the country.

This was reported by different business chambers the night of this Monday, May 24, after a meeting with the Government of Carlos Alvarado, in which they asked him to step on the accelerator of the vaccination while the country is going through the worst moment of the pandemic.

The private sector also sent information to the National Vaccine Commission on the variety of vaccines that are being applied in the world, while Costa Rica continues to apply only Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

“As soon as a purchase and import option is finalized that can meet government requirements, it will be made known to all interested“, Reported the private sector chambers in a statement.

They also indicated that at the meeting on Monday they made an offer to the government of facilities, professionals, technological solutions and other capabilities “To speed up and improve the vaccination process.”

In addition, they will draw up an inventory of capacities that they will be sending to the authorities of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) for use during the current health emergency.

The Catholic Church, which was a mediator in the virtual meeting on Monday, also reported that the government was asked to assess the use of vaccines from other pharmaceutical companies and enable a bipartisan table to review the progress of the vaccination campaign.

The private sector was represented by the Union of Chambers (Uccaep), the Chamber of Industries, the Costa Rican North American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) and others.
