An emergency call came in late in the evening. A man lost his balance and fell into the Main with his bicycle. The man’s 35-year-old friend immediately jumped in and tried to help him.
However, he couldn’t get hold of the 41-year-old and was pulled back onto land by a local resident. Rescue workers from the fire brigade and the water rescue service were able to rescue him a little later from the bottom of the Main. Attempts at resuscitation by an emergency doctor were ultimately unsuccessful, and the 41-year-old died in a hospital that same evening.
The Würzburg criminal police took over the investigation into the circumstances of the death. According to initial investigations, the considerable alcohol consumption of the two men may have played a major role in the accident.
