4 Tips for Losing Weight After the Holidays: Skip Fast Carbs, Put Protein on the Menu, Incorporate Healthy Fats, Add a Salad or Extra Vegetables to Your Evening Meal

You enjoyed a wonderful holiday, but now you can’t button up your jeans. You think of all the ice cream, wine and other summer treats you had on vacation. No problem. With these four tips you will be back on weight in no time after the holidays.

1. Skip fast carbs

The best way to lose weight is to avoid fast carbohydrates. By fast carbohydrates we mean sugar, but also white bread, white rice and white pasta.

It is most effective to leave all rice, pasta and bread until you regain your weight. So also whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta and brown rice.

Instead, you can eat bread made from grains and seeds. You can find many tasty and easy recipes on the internet.

You can of course also eat other tasty breakfasts and lunches instead of bread. Think of Greek yogurt with nuts and berries in the morning and a richly filled vegetable omelette at noon.

Did you know that you can find ready-made cauliflower rice in the supermarket as an alternative to regular rice? Low-carb spaghetti in the form of courgetti can also be found in the supermarket. With it you can make delicious rice and pasta dishes. Without the huge amount of carbohydrates you get with grains.

You can also make lasagna with zucchini or pumpkin slices as lasagna sheets. So there are plenty of options to cut down on carbohydrates and see your extra pounds disappear quickly.

2. Put protein on the menu

We already gave away a protein-rich breakfast in the form of Greek yogurt with nuts and berries above. Proteins are ideal for quickly losing holiday kilos. They are very satiating, so you are less likely to reach for sweet and high-calorie snacks.

Protein also helps burn more calories. That is exactly what you need if you want to lose excess weight. After all, you lose weight if you burn more calories than you take in.

3. Healthy fats

To lose those few pounds quickly, healthy fats are essential. They saturate well, so you don’t feel hungry for a long time and leave unhealthy snacks.

Now you have more and less healthy fats. It is better to leave trans fats, such as in cookies and margarine. These only burden your body. Go for healthy fats such as coconut oil, olive oil, nuts, seeds and kernels.

Coconut oil consists almost entirely of saturated fat, but these are mainly healthy fatty acids such as MCTs. These not only give a feeling of satiety for a long time, but also help you burn belly fat. You can heat coconut oil up to 160-170 degrees, so that’s a great option for baking and roasting.

Olive oil is also a supplier of healthy fats that keep you satiated for a long time. It is important to use olive oil cold. This is because unhealthy trans fats can be formed during heating. So use this oil for salads or drizzle it over your vegetable pasta after removing it from the heat.

4. Add a salad or extra vegetables to your evening meal

Vegetables are ideal if you want to lose weight. They provide many nutrients and contain few calories. There are also vegetables that you can eat almost unlimitedly because they contain hardly any carbohydrates. Think mushrooms, broccoli and spinach.

So make a salad to eat with your evening meal or scoop up extra vegetables. Vegetables provide fiber that makes you feel full. You also get a lot of healthy vitamins and minerals with vegetables. You need it to keep feeling fit and fresh while losing weight.
