4 Countries Led by ‘Dictators’ Close Allies of Putin

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Despite the rain of international sanctions and boycotts, President Russia Vladimir Putin apparently still has several allies who support him, including the matter of the decision to invade Ukraine.

Some of these allies even lead a country forever. Some of them have also been in power for quite a long time, up to a decade.

Despite claiming to fight politically through direct elections, these leaders always win without being limited to the presidential term.

Here is a list of pro-Putin countries led by ‘dictators’:

1. Hungary

Last weekend, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his nationalist party Fidesz won a landslide victory in the election.

Orban is a leader known to be authoritarian and a close ally of Putin. Shortly after winning, the Russian leader immediately congratulated him.

This victory made him extend his tenure in the fourth term in charge of Hungary.

Meanwhile, Fidesz managed to pocket 53 percent of the total votes, so this party will be quite dominant in parliamentary seats.

Orban’s victory could also be a symbolic victory for Putin given that Hungary is a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union. Two organizations that Putin hates.

In his victory speech, Orba cited the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, as one of the enemies to be defeated.

“We have a kind of victory that can be seen from the sky, but for sure it can also be seen from Brussels (NATO),” Orba was quoted as saying. CNNMonday (4/4).

He then said, “(Fidesz) will remember this victory until the end of our lives because we have to fight against enemies, opponents in large numbers.”

2. Serbia

Putin may also be happy that his close ally in Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, remained as head of state in last weekend’s elections.

Prior to becoming president, Vucic served as prime minister from 2014-2017. If counted as a whole Vucic’s latest victory puts him in power for almost a decade.
