4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Near Plovdiv: No Casualties or Damage Reported

Earthquake 4.8 on the Richter scale near Plovdiv, reports the European Seismological Center and BAS.

It was 5 km deep. The tremor was felt at 15:26. Its epicenter is 17 km from Plovdiv. The townspeople have gone outside.

The earthquake was also felt in Sofia.

For bTV, the regional governor of Plovdiv, Angel Stoev, said that so far there are no reports of casualties or destruction. At the moment, the situation is calm.

The fire station in Plovdiv has not received any reports of damage at this time. Two fire trucks from Asenovgrad will preemptively patrol the main streets and boulevards in the city.

According to the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography at the BAS, the earthquake occurred near Asenovgrad, where it was felt most strongly. The institute estimates that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 4.5 km, and that its magnitude was 4.8 on the Richter scale.

Six minutes after the earthquake, an aftershock measuring 2.1 on the Richter scale was also recorded.

In Asenovgrad, where, according to seismologists, the epicenter is, there are no reports of damage or injured people, announced the mayor of the city, Hristo Grudev.

The fire department went around all the central streets, buildings were inspected and there was no evidence of destruction and no one was injured.
