4.5% drop in sales in the USA in May

(CercleFinance.com) – Ford announced Thursday a 4.5% drop in vehicle sales in the United States in May compared to the same month last year, a decline that the manufacturer links to the current shortage of semiconductors.

The group’s sales reached 154,461 units last month, against 161,725 a year earlier, mainly due to a 6.8% decline in sales of its Lincoln brand.

By vehicle category, the decline reached 45% for passenger cars, 4.4% for SUVs and 1.4% for pick-ups.

In its press release, Ford prefers to highlight the dynamism of sales of its latest models such as the Bronco, the Bronco Sport and the Maverick, as well as the 222% jump in its sales of electric vehicles, a rate four times higher than that of the market.
