Why don’t they get vaccinated?

According to research from the School of Statistics of the University of Costa Rica, one of the most popular beliefs among those who skip vaccination is that the formula for the dose against COVID-19has added substances that harm health. 22.3% of the people surveyed said they agree or strongly agree that this is real.

They were followed by a 19.8% who affirm that the same vaccine produces the coronavirusand then there is support for lesser-known myths, such as that causes infertility at 6.3%, includes mind control microchips at 4.1%, causes autism at 3.5%, and causes cancer at 3.3% support.

However, the study also shows that fewer and fewer people believe in these myths. A scale of beliefs about the myths of the vaccine gave as a result that it was obtained an average of 2.6, within a range of zero to ten, of people who take them as true.

“It is of great importance that people complete their vaccination schedule against COVID-19, since this vaccine has shown true efficacy in reducing the risk of severe symptoms and the risk of death from this disease,” said Dr. Abarca. .

Efforts to increase coverage

The Fund’s vaccinating teams are applying strategies to reduce the list of 168 thousand children between 5 and 11 years old who have not yet received any dose of the pediatric vaccine.

In coordination with the Ministry of Public Education, CCSS officials are making visits to educational centers in the country to initiate or complete schemes among minors in this age group.

Dr. Diana Paniagua Hidalgo, from Epidemiological Surveillance, recalls that, in addition to the benefits of vaccination, this is mandatory among minors.

“CCSS officials are making tremendous efforts to bring the COVID-19 vaccine to all children in the school setting. However, it is important for parents and guardians to remember that this vaccineIt is already part of the compulsory basic scheme that every minor must receive and that they are, precisely, the first responsible for ensuring the protection of this population through the vaccine, “explained Paniagua.
