30 more applications have been submitted to “Kristaps Lielais” than last year – Kino – Kultūra +

Ten feature films have been nominated for the National Film Award. This year, eight short feature films have also been submitted to the competition.

Ten full-length documentaries and 13 short documentaries have been submitted in the documentary categories. In turn, 12 films have been submitted in the animation category.

12 films have been submitted to the student film competition, they represent the National Film School of the Latvian Academy of Culture, the Latvian Academy of Arts and Riga Stradiņš University.

The nominees for this year’s National Film Award will be announced in early October, and the selection committee nominating the nominees has already begun its work.

This year Daira Āboliņa, representative of the Latvian branch of the international film critics ‘association “FIPRESCI”, Aija Bērziņa, representative of the Latvian Film Producers’ Association, Jānis Eglītis, representative of the Latvian Cinematographers ‘Guild, Jānis Kalniņš, representative of the Latvian Film Artists’ Guild, Jānis Kalniņš Kristīne Matīsa, representative of the Center, and Ieva Viese, representative of the Latvian Animation Association.

Experts will be required to watch all submitted films with a total screen time of more than 50 hours.

This year, the National Film Award will take place from November 13 to November 16 at the Splendid Palace cinema, and the award ceremony will be held in person or live on Latvian television on November 15.
