3 Arrested in Death of Former Football Player Found in Dallas Airbnb – NBC4 Dallas (39)

DALLAS – Dallas police have arrested three people in connection with the shooting death of a man found in an Airbnb rental in May.

According to the Dallas Police Department, officers were called to a residence in the 500 block of South Ervay Street shortly after 10 p.m. and when officers arrived, they discovered the victim, 25-year-old Du’Vonta Lampkin, lying face up with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound. There the victim was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives discovered that the place was an Airbnb that was being rented by a man and a woman, who were both friends of the victim. Witnesses told detectives they rented the apartment for the victim for the week while she waited to move into her new apartment.

Lampkin was supposed to leave the apartment on May 6, but he stopped answering his phone and the witness went to the apartment to check on him. He later discovered Lampkin dead and returned to his apartment to call the police because he feared the killer was still inside, he reported.

According to a report in the Dallas Morning News, Antwan Franklin, 22, and Erick Garcia, 24, were arrested on July 8 and booked into the Dallas County Jail. Bail is set at $500,000 for Franklin and $750,000 for Garcia. They each face a capital murder charge.

Dallas police said officers also arrested John Williams, 31, on July 29 for his role in the homicide.

PLAYED FOOTBALL FOR OKLAHOMA UNIVERSITY

According to a tweet from the University of Oklahoma football team, Du’Vonta Lampkin played for the Sooners and “was a supportive teammate and a joy to be around.”

“Our sincerest thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to his family and loved ones,” the team said.

Eddie Lampkin, a basketball player at Texas Christian University, apparently confirmed his brother’s death Friday morning on Twitter, tweeting, “My brother was killed.”

According to SoonerSports.com, Lampkin redshirted in 2015 and played two seasons for the Sooners. Lampkin’s online biography says he spent time in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans and the Massachusetts Pirates of the Indoor Football League. Lampkin, from Houston, played high school football in Cypress Falls.

The Dallas Police Department asks anyone with information about this investigation to contact Homicide Detective Josué Rodríguez at 214-671-3994 or via email at [email protected].
