3.5 million Danes will get a booster before Christmas – VG

As a measure against omicron infection, the neighboring country will offer all booster doses within seven days. All Danes over the age of 18 can now book an appointment online.

The extra immunity to the omicron variant is necessary, says director of the Statens Serum Institut, Søren Brostrøm, during today’s press conference in Denmark.

The authorities’ ambition is that those who are relevant, ie received other stabs at least four and a half months ago, will receive it within seven days.

They emphasize that this ambition may not be fulfilled, but this is the goal they are aiming for.

So far, 1.2 million Danes have received a booster dose. Now another 2.3 million will get before Christmas Eve.

– This is an effort that is scaled up from day to day and hour to hour. It is also certain that our IT systems will be stretched to the limit, says Erik Jylling, who is director of public health policy for Danish regions.

There is a lot going on on the website vacciner.dk, where the Danes can order their third sting – 144,000 people were in front of the queue when VG tried to enter at 10.15 on Monday morning.

Slow pace in Norway

Denmark has about as many inhabitants as Norway. In this country, the booster vaccine is still slow. Last week, VG wrote that Norway does not reach the vaccine target of 400,000 bites a week.

Norway has opened up for a booster dose for those over 45 years of age. Not everyone over the age of 65 has still received it, partly due to capacity problems in the municipalities. Last week, around 20–30 per cent of those over the age of 65 were not vaccinated. The goal is to get everyone vaccinated before Christmas.

The government has said they are considering using pharmacies to relieve the municipalities.

27 inlaid with omicron

Denmark now receives help from 1100 private medical clinics.

Denmark currently has 2400 confirmed omicron cases, and 27 omikron hospitalized.

Of the cases, 334 are unvaccinated and 234 have received a booster dose.

On Monday morning, FHI said that they do not believe a booster dose is enough to stop the infection and that further measures may be needed as well.

Assistant health director Espen Rostrup Nakstad told NRK that we can expect more measures soon:

– My answer is that there will definitely be adjustments in the future, he replied NRK Monday when asked if we can expect stricter measures towards Christmas.
