In Hamburg and Bremen it is theoretically possible to completely fill the arenas under 2G conditions. It is their right that the clubs take advantage of this opportunity.

It has now been a year and six months since a soccer stadium in Germany was filled to the last seat. The Champions League game between Leipzig and Tottenham saw exactly 42,146 spectators on March 10, 2020, which was not undisputed even then. We now pretty much know what has happened since then. Lockdown. Ghost games. There are currently a limited number of spectators.
Now the federal states of Bremen and Hamburg have given their clubs the opportunity to end this period. Last weekend, HSV theoretically had the option to fill the Volksparkstadion against 1. FC Nürnberg, but decided not to implement it because of the short notice. Now the game of SV Werder against 1. FC Heidenheim on Friday is the next game where full capacity is possible again, and FC St. Pauli could theoretically completely fill the Millerntor Stadium on Sunday against Dresden. However, the condition is: The 2G principle must apply. So only those vaccinated against Corona or those recovered from Corona are allowed in. One test is then no longer sufficient.
That raises two questions. Firstly: Is it responsible for a completely full stadium without a gap or mask, in times when experts like the virologist Christian Drosten are warning of a renewed spread of the infections in autumn? And secondly: Should clubs switch to 2G and thus exclude some of their supporters?

The first question can be answered with a cautious “yes”. According to the Robert Koch Institute, it is theoretically possible for people who have been vaccinated or recovered to catch the virus and pass it on – in a 2G stadium, however, only other vaccinated people and genesis would be exposed to this risk (in contrast to the supermarket), which is the risk of a Actually excludes super-spreading events. The risk of having a severe corona course at the end of a causal chain because of attending a soccer game would be reduced to a very low level. But SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach finds it critical – he sees a problem in getting to the stadium.
Every club has to answer the second question for itself, and uniform rules throughout Germany would help – but that is still wishful thinking even after 18 months of pandemic. While the 2G rule is interpreted very strictly in Hamburg, people in Bremen who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons are also allowed into the stadium. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the 3G rule allows the seats to be fully used and the standing room to be half used. Clubs like Cologne or BVB are even stricter than the state government and use 2G independently.
Because since the beginning of the season, one essential factor has changed in the whole pandemic situation: that the possibility of complete vaccination protection was given until mid-October. Those who claim the freedom not to be vaccinated may now be confronted with the freedom of the football clubs to no longer want to take it into account when in doubt. But Germany will probably also be accompanied by this conflict outside of the stadiums in the autumn.
