25th International Film Festival; Audience Award for Lijo Jose Pellissery’s ‘Churuli’

Palakkad: The 25th International Film Festival has come to an end. This Is Not a Burial But a Restoration, directed by Lemohang Jeremiah Moses, won the Gold Medal. The theme of the film is the resistance of a people for survival. Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Churuli won the Audience Award for Best Picture. The awards were presented at the closing ceremony held in Palakkad. Director Adoor Gopalakrishnan was the chief guest at the function.

Lijo Jose Pellissery also received a Special Mention from the Jury for Best Director in the International Competition category. Lonely Rock director Alejandro Telemaco won the silver medal for Best Debut Director. The Silver Medal for Best Director goes to Bahman Tavosi, the director of The Names of the Flowers.

Azerbaijan’s In Beat Wein Dying won the FIPRESCI International Award for Best Picture. The film is directed by Hilal Baidrov. Android Kunjappan directed by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Pothuval has been selected as the best Malayalam film in this category. FFSA Award for Best Debut Director in India – KR Mohanan Award goes to Akshay Indiker. The film also won the Netflix Award for Best Asian Film. The Musical Chair directed by Vipin Attlee won the Netpak Award for Best Malayalam Film at the festival.

IFFK was launched on February 10 in Thiruvananthapuram. For the first time in the history of Corona, the fair was held in four editions in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Thalassery and Palakkad.
