24 million euros profit in 2022

While the organization wanted to sweep the financial figures under the rug as much as possible in 2020 and 2021, Tomorrowland released last year’s financial report in a press release. And that can also be seen: never before has so much money come in and never before has the profit been so great. Of a turnover of 164.2 million euros, after deduction of all costs, a profit of 24 million euros remained. This more than made up for the accumulated loss of the corona years – 13.6 million euros. But even before corona, net profit was never more than five million euros.

It indicates how important that third festival weekend in 2022 was. It should therefore come as no surprise that owners Manu and Michiel Beers would like to add such a third weekend in Boom to the calendar every year. Because they can scale up from 400,000 to 600,000 visitors with the same facilities, profits are leveraged, resulting in much higher margins. In terms of interest, that would not be a problem – the tickets sell out every year – but the residents do not like this. As a result, 2022 will probably remain an exception.

Nevertheless, Tomorrowland does everything in its power to emphasize the added value of the festival. “The three weekends resulted in an increase in Flemish output or economic activity of 320 million euros, which represents an employment of 2,138 full-time jobs,” says spokeswoman Debby Wilmsen. “All kinds of purchases of goods and services were made for the organization from more than 1,150 Flemish suppliers.” According to the organization, the hotel sector also received a significant boost. Something that was confirmed on Thursday by the Brussels hotel federation, where they say they owe at least 60,000 hotel nights exclusively to Tomorrowland in recent weeks.

One million tickets sold in 2023

2023 also announces itself rosy. In total, the company will be able to clock in at one million tickets sold this year The last news. In addition to Tomorrowland, there were already the Core Festival in Brussels and Tulum (Mexico) and Tomorrowland Winter on the French Alpe d’Huez earlier this year. But especially in October – after two previous editions in 2015 and 2016 – there will be the comeback of Tomorrowland Brasil in the city of Itu near São Paulo. “All 180,000 available tickets are sold out in less than three hours,” says Wilmsen.

As a result, turnover will probably be kept at the same level, but that does not automatically mean more profit. Organizing three festival weekends on the same site is simply cheaper than additional festivals at completely different locations. In any case, thanks to the local government, Tomorrowland has passed a stress test and can take a beating again.
