22,089 positive corona tests, almost the same as last Saturday | Inland

Last week, an average of 22,294 new corona cases per day arrived at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). That weekly average has remained fairly constant for a number of days.

The fact that the number of positive tests appears to be leveling off does not mean that the number of infections is actually leveling off. The test streets of the GGDs are approaching their maximum capacity. They test about 100,000 people a day, and in recent weeks 20 to 25 percent of all tests have come out positive. This roughly corresponds to the more than 20,000 positive tests per day that the Netherlands has had for more than a week and a half.

In the municipality of Amsterdam, 949 new corona cases were reported last 24 hours. In Rotterdam, 736 people were told that they are infected and in The Hague 521 people. In Utrecht and Tilburg, respectively, 418 and 314 people received a positive test result. Only on Ameland and Vlieland were no new corona infections confirmed between Friday and Saturday.

RIVM reports 55 new deaths in the past 24 hours as a result of a corona infection. Those people do not all have to have died in the past 24 hours, because sometimes it takes a while before a corona-related death is reported to RIVM. The number of registered deaths is 50 or more for the fifth day in a row.

Hospitals

One day before the new cabinet measures come into effect, the influx of corona patients in Dutch hospitals is as high as ever. The nursing departments have seen 354 new patients with a corona infection come in over the past 24 hours, according to the most recent figures from the National Coordination Center for Patients Spreading (LCPS). A total of 2624 people with Covid-19 will be in hospitals on Saturday.

Employees of the nursing departments are currently caring for 2069 corona patients. Despite the high number of new admissions, that is on balance one less than 24 hours ago. This is because more people left the nursing wards than were newly admitted, for example because they were discharged from hospital or died. It is also possible that patients were transferred to intensive care units.

In those departments, the number of corona patients occupying a bed increased by 27 last 24 hours. In total, IC employees are currently treating 555 seriously ill corona patients. There were 51 new admissions, but because people also died or were allowed to leave the IC, the number of occupied beds increased less rapidly on balance.
